The Cutting Edge of Photonics:

Helping high-tech scientific manufacturer Thorlabs streamline their supply chain.

As high-tech as Thorlabs is – and they are as cutting edge as it gets – the company puts their highest priority on customer relations and satisfaction, loyalty, listening, and being a good corporate neighbor. That is why TOTALogistix is proud to be the logistics partner for this impressive and rapidly growing firm. And we’re neighbors, too. While Thorlabs has manufacturing and sales operations in nine countries on four continents and distributes worldwide, their headquarters is in Newton, NJ, next door to TOTAL’s Sparta homebase.

From $47 million in sales ten years ago, Thorlabs just passed the quarter billion dollar mark, in the burgeoning field of photonics and optomechanical components for imaging, research, precise measurement and motion control. As the company’s own publicity puts it, their “highly integrated and diverse manufacturing assets include semiconductor fabrication of Fabry-Perot, DFB, and VCSEL lasers, fiber towers for drawing glass optical fibers (silica, fluoride, tellurite, and hollow core), MBE crystal growth machines, extensive glass and metal fabrication facilities, advanced thin film deposition capabilities, and optomechanical and optoelectronic shops.”

Seeking to make their supply chain as advanced as their product line, Thorlabs chose to work with TOTALogistix. Over the past three years, we put systems in place to streamline their shipping and accounts payable, both in this country and overseas, and help the company manage their expanding operations. We used our global logistics expertise and worked with Thorlabs’ carriers to help maintain their ‘best in class’ practices, improve performance and, not incidentally, save them significant sums of money.
